Community Composting Scheme
Lochaber Environmental Group
contact: richard.backhouse@l-e-g.org.uk

The project aimed to: improve the environment by composting organic waste that is otherwise consigned to landfill or thrown away; provide a useful soil product which can be used locally; encourage the take up of home composting for kitchen waste; provide work in rural areas; provide training; provide a village focus for practical measures to promote sustainable living; offer communities a practical form of voluntary work. It achieved this by setting up four sites in rural Lochaber to establish a network of village schemes to compost garden waste.
