West Highland European Leader Kist (WHELK) is a partnership of public and community agencies set up to deliver the LEADER PLUS programme in the west coast of Scotland. The two main themes of the programme are:

Making best use of natural and cultural resources
and Improving the quality of life in rural areas.

The programme, which ran from 2002-2006, supported over 240 community groups, voluntary organisations, micro & small businesses with grant aid of up to 45% of total project costs.

WHELK LEADER+ covered Lochaber, the Cowal peninsula, Bute, Arran and the Cumbraes,
Lorn & the Isles, Mid-Argyll, Kintyre, Islay & Jura.
